TGotT book was not at all what I was expecting. Firstly, I expected Rachel (the girl on the train) to be, well, a girl. I was picturing a young 20-something, not an older woman. She had a lot of personal issues, so we hear about all of those in this story, and it got pretty boring/annoying at times.
We also get two other POV's, and they each had their own set of problems as well. Overall, this book was more a complicated life drama than a mystery. I did enjoy the way Hawkins connected everything, and definitely did not see the twist at the end, though it wasn't a huge shock. I'd rate this 3 out of 5 stars!
WTFH started out slow, but quickly picked up speed as we started hearing about the murder. This was another multiple POV story, something I love, and I REALLY liked the way McCreight spun it. Everyone and everything was connected in some way, and it was a little mind boggling.
One POV really ticked me off, but in a way where it boosted my enjoyment of the story because I knew I was invested in it. I really liked the personal aspect to the story, unlike The Girl on the Train, simply because it was engaging and really added to the plot. The small clues really held my attention.
I didn't see the ending coming at all. My boss and I were so shocked that we were just staring at each other, mouths hung open. McCreight weaved the ending beautifully and really blew my expectations out of the water. I'd rate this 4 out of 5 stars!
I listened to these with my boss at work, hence the audiobooks and the odd background in my pictures :)
I highly recommend reading The Girl on the Train: A Novel.
