Crown of Midnight by Sarah J. Maas

Song I Played While Reading- Left Behinds by Hardwell
Rating- 5 Trillion Stars

Synopsis-
"A line that should never be crossed is about to be breached.
It puts this entire castle in jeopardy—and the life of your friend."

From the throne of glass rules a king with a fist of iron and a soul as black as pitch. Assassin Celaena Sardothien won a brutal contest to become his Champion. Yet Celaena is far from loyal to the crown. She hides her secret vigilantly; she knows that the man she serves is bent on evil.

Keeping up the deadly charade becomes increasingly difficult when Celaena realizes she is not the only one seeking justice. As she tries to untangle the mysteries buried deep within the glass castle, her closest relationships suffer. It seems no one is above questioning her allegiances—not the Crown Prince Dorian; not Chaol, the Captain of the Guard; not even her best friend, Nehemia, a foreign princess with a rebel heart.

Then one terrible night, the secrets they have all been keeping lead to an unspeakable tragedy. As Celaena's world shatters, she will be forced to give up the very thing most precious to her and decide once and for all where her true loyalties lie...and whom she is ultimately willing to fight for.

How do I even BEGIN to describe this book? I honestly have no words. That ending blew me away. This is the second installment in Sarah J. Maas's Throne of Glass series, and let me tell you something; this book is a motherfucking roller coaster. You don't even have time to breathe from the situation Celanea gets herself out of, before she's diving headlong into another one. Theres mystery, intrigue, crazy heists, swoon worthy boys, and this EARTH SHATTERING SITUATION THAT CHANGES EVERYTHING AND IT'S ONLY THE SECOND BOOK AND YOU REALIZE... THERES 4 MORE OF THESE BOOKS, HOW ARE YOU GOING TO LIVE THROUGH THIS?! If you haven't yet read this ... What're you doing with your life?
________________________________________

Oh my god. Just..
Oh.
My.
GOD.
HOW DOES ONE COME UP WITH THIS SHIT?! I wanna live inside Maas's head.
We knew Celanea was fae. Enough so that, whenever someone mentioned the Fae people or made fun of them, she snapped at them. And she mentioned how her powers disappeared too, so we knew she was hiding something. There were soo many little hints here and there while reading this, and my slow ass brain wasn't putting it together. It only started rolling when Chaol was looking into Celaenas past, and from there I had some freaky shit going on. I thought she was Aelin Galathynius's sister. I DIDNT THINK SHE HERSELF WAS AELIN GALATHYNIUS. It was so slow to hit me. I only realized when Chaol read that part in the chronicle of Aelin being thought to have drowned in the river. And then it hit me and I just started bawling my eyes out and screamed for my mom and she came tearing into my room, equally freaked out, and then shook her head when she realized what my issue was.
IT WAS SO GOOD. I NEVER IN A MILLION YEARS SAW THIS COMING.
Though I was slow with that, I managed to keep up with everything else in the book, besides Archer, which I didn't see coming either. He was a little shit and I'm glad he died (though him and Celaena at dinner had me drooling a little, that naughty boy).
Of course Nehemia was the martyr. How else would Celanea stand up against the King? What I still don't understand is why her death had to be so gruesome. Couldn't she just have her throat slit? The extra gore was almost cruel. Though it did lead to that wicked scene with Celaena attacking Chaol. I ship them but DAYUM SHE WAS BADASS. From her mowing down men left and right at the warehouse to slaughtering Grave, I kept bouncing up and down in my bed. YOU GO GIRL. I FULLY APPROVE, KEEP MAKING MAMA PROUD.
I wonder how the wyrdkeys, wyrdgates, the obsidian rings the King, Perrington, and Roland all wear, and the clock come in to play. We know the rings have some mind control abilities, which caused headaches in both Kaltain and Roland (did Kaltain wear a ring? I can't remember). But either way, its odd that Roland would get headaches since he was being complacent. He was siding with Dorian at every meeting. Which maybe the King planned, because he knew Dorian would trust him and maybe open up about his powers? The King must know about that. He just doesn't know when they'll manifest. But then he must have grew tired of waiting and sent Roland with Perrington.
I felt sick reading from the POV of the malformed human/beast thing, because clearly the King is trying to create his own indestructible army. I can't decided if I think he was the only one that was created, or the only one that survived the transformation. Either way, I'm glad he was put out of his misery.
Dorian is awesome. Though I'll go down with Chaolaena, I'm still SO glad him and Celaena worked it out and are friends. He was there for her at a time when no one else could, and that helped strengthen her resolve on defeating his father when she saw the goodness in him. I hope him and Celaena blast the King into hell in the end. ALTHOUGH,  I wavered on Chaol when he ran into the portal to save Fleetfoot. I understand what its like to loose an animal, BUT SERIOUSLY YOU JUST RAN INTO AN UNKNOWN PORTAL FOR A FUCKING DOG. LIKE REALLY, DO YOU NOT VALUE YOUR LIFE AT ALL? DO YOU KNOW WHAT YOUR DEATH WOULD HAVE DONE TO ME? Good thing he's so damn cute and sweet or else it would have been Dorlaena (Celorian?).

Quotes
- "Roland gave her a courtier's smile. "And what sort of work do you do for my uncle?"
Dorian shifed on his feet and Chaol went very still, but Celaena returned Roalnd's smile and said, "I bury the kings opponents where nobody will ever find them." (pg. 28)

- "Chaol positively hated Roland, and whenever he came up in conversation, it was usually accompanied by phrases like "conniving wretch" and "sniveling, spoiled ass." At least, thats what Chaol had been roaring three years ago, after the captain had punched Roland so hard in the face that the youth had blacked out." (pg. 29) HOT

- "The kiss obliterated her.
It was like coming home or being born or suddenly finding an entire half of herself that had been missing." (pg. 188)

- "He reached into his pocket and fished out the four gold coins he'd brought. "I hope this will buy me all the questions I want- and your discretion.
She chucked the clean half of the leg onto the pile and set to work on the other, sucking and gnawing. "I bet you wipe your ass with gold."
"I don't think that would be very comfortable." (pg. 193)

- "After a moment, his father looked up from the list and surveyed her. "Well done, Champion. Well done indeed."
Then Celaena and the King of Adarlan smiled at each other, and it was the most terrifying thing Dorian had ever seen." (pg. 267)

My Books

Hi there!
I've been wanting to do a little post on all the books that I have, plus what my book cases look like, but I had to wait until I got my new one today. I only brought a suitcase full of books here to California, ones that I needed or couldn't part without. Little did I realize I could have brought like 20 more books, but that just means I can buy more now :)
These are my book cases back home! I made a post on this, but I'll do a little recap here. I moved to California a couple weeks ago, but we still haven't sold our house in Illinois so we had to keep most of our stuff there to make it look lived in. That means the book cases needed to be full :( Luckily before I left I gave in to the urge to take pictures of these beauts so here they are! I kept them in alphabetical order by author, but decided to switch it up and do it by favorites/genre/series (that sounds much more complicated typed out then it really is).

The left book case in the first picture is my favorite fantasy/sci-fi/paranormal series, and it goes on from there on the book case to the right, leading to the stand alone books.

These are the new book shelves my mom added a couple months before we moved. These feature some more paranormal books in the top left sections, and then leads to the contemporary's/dramas. The bottom shelf are my favorites.

Finally, this the bookcase my grandma and I just put together today. As you can see, I have some shopping to do ;)

What're some books I should get?

Throne of Glass by by Sarah J. Maas

Song I Played While Reading- Left Behinds by Hardwell
Rating- 4 stars

Synopsis-
In a world without magic, an assassin is summoned to the castle. She comes not to kill the vicious king who rules from his throne of glass but to win her freedom. If she defeats twenty-three killers, thieves, and warriors in a competition, she will be released from prison to serve as the King's Champion. Her name is Celaena Sardothien.
The Crown Prince will provoke her. The Captain of the Guard will protect her. And a princess from a far away land will befriend her. But something evil dwells in the castle- and its there to kill. When her competitors start dying one by one, Celaena's fight for freedom becomes a fight for survival- and a desperate quest to root out the evil before it destroys her world.

Alright first off, I just wanted to express my outrage at the synopsis up on Goodreads and Barnes and Noble. I took the one up above from the back of the book because the other one is poorly written. It makes Celaena sound like a shallow brat who thinks she's better then everyone. It's not even the whole synopsis, its this one paragraph.
"Celaena finds her training sessions with the captain of the guard, Westfall, challenging and exhilirating. But she's bored stiff by court life. Things get a little more interesting when the prince starts to show interest in her... but it's the gruff Captain Westfall who seems to understand her best."
I don't know why that pisses me off so much. Like hellooooooo, this book isn't a romance people! Sure it has a love triangle in it but it's so much more then that. And using Chaol's last name like that makes it sound stupid. I'M VERY PROTECTIVE OF THIS BOOK, OKAY? MAKE IT SOUND GOOD OR I'LL HURT SOMEONE.
Okay sorry I needed to get that out of the way.
ANYWAYS, this book. It was awesome. My love for Celaena knows no bounds. She's a smart ass who's words are almost as deadly as the knives she wields. The world building in this was phenomenal, but didn't slow the book down. It was action packed and made my heart pound at some points.
I was able to understand everything (having a pronunciation guide in the back of the book helped OODLES), and it was nice having a narrator who actually appreciated being a girl. She loved wearing makeup and getting her nails done and wearing frilly dresses, but had makeshift daggers hidden in her corset. She knew how to use her beauty to her advantage and wasn't afraid to do it. It was refreshing.
Theres something for everyone in this book, so I highly recommend it! (and can we talk about that cover? GORGEOUS)

_________________________________________

I don't think I've ever been so suspicious of so many people in one book. I was bouncing all over the place, going "Cain's weird." to "Eh, no Nehemia could have a secret agenda." to "Alright Kaltain, cool your opium addition, WHAT'RE YOU TRYING TO HIDE?" to "ITS DUKE PERRINGTON HE'S BEHIND ALL OF THIS." Which, technically, wasn't a lie. I didn't even bother wasting my breath on blaming the King cause the state of this entire world is his fault, but we already knew that and didn't need to point out the obvious.
I knew there was something fishy with Perrington's ring, and how him, the King, and Cain all had it. And when he was talking to Kaltain and twisted it around his finger and her headache spiked, that definitely had me giving him the stink eye. I knew Kaltain was an accomplice, wether she knew it herself or not. My issue with Nehemia stemmed from the whole Ansel situation in The Assassins Blade, when Celaena was training at the Red Desert. I thought her father had forced her to come kill all the Champions and to spy on the king, but she was wavering on Celaena cause they were friends.  It wouldn't have surprised me if that had happened, but I'm glad Celaena finally has girlfriend she can confide too.
It's interesting how Maas portrays the King in this book because.. there really isn't much to him. He has no name and no description. All we know is that he's this hulking beast that everyone fears. It reminds me of the scene in Unravel Me by Tahereh Mafi (spoiler? maybe?) when Juliette meets Anderson for the first time and asks him his name because she hated calling him the Supreme to herself, "as if he's some kind of untouchable entity." This is exactly what's happening here in this story. All this mystery surrounding who he is and what he looks like makes him appear bigger in our minds then he really is. Though I am curious to know what his hair color is, only because I want to be able to picture Hollin, Dorians brother. Dorian mentioned something about getting his mothers looks while Hollin got his fathers (plus theres that weird little tidbit of Dorian having blue eyes when neither of his parents do).
Now, it took me a while to come to my decision on the man candy situation. Team Chaol? Or Team Dorian?
For the first 50 pages I was Team Dorian, only because him and Celaena playfully made little verbal jabs at each other. But then as I read on I switched allegiances, and now I'm officially Team Chaol. He's a better fit for her. They're more alike, both in how they were raised and what they were taught to believe in. Sure he was a little stiff at first, but only because he was doing his job. He's steadfast, while Dorian is still too unaware of just how brutal the world is. Chaol is that hunk that's always waiting in the background, ready to throw himself in front of danger for those he loves. Plus he's all rugged and ripped and WHO DOESNT WANT THAT. Sorry Dorian, maybe if you grew out a little stubble I would like you more.
Seriously I don't even want to talk about how sweet Chaol was when he kneeled down across from her at the final duel and reached out his hand, telling her to get up. I was picturing it in my head and almost cried cause it was so dramatic and beautiful.
Queen Elena is a side I never saw coming in this book. Actually, scratch that, the whole Fae situation was unexpected. With the little creatures putting those white flowers in her tent on her way back to the castle, and then these dreams she has of the first Queen of Adarlan. Celaena is related to her so she's obviously royalty of some kind, though I keep wracking my brain with trying to connect that with her back story. Who were were parents? How were they killed?
"Celaena stood in the tomb, and she knew she was dreaming. She often visited the tomb in her dreams- to slay the ridderak again, to be trapped inside Elena's sarcophagus, to face a featureless young woman with golden hair and a crown far too heavy for her to bear..."
TIS A MYSTERY AND I WANT TO KNOW NOW.
I can't even describe the anger I felt when we read about Kaltain poisoning Celaenas drink before the dual. Like, BITCH HOW DARE YOU? I'm glad she got thrown into the stupid dungeon. You aren't worthy of Dorian, biotch.

Quotes
"Young women flocked to them, waving. Dorian winked and grinned. Celaena couldn't help but notice the sharp stares from the same women when they beheld her in the prince's retinue. She knew how she appeared, seated atop a horse like some prize lady being brought to the castle. So Celaena only smiled at them, tossed her hair, and batted her eyelashes at the princes back.
Her arm stung. "What?" she hissed at the Captain of the Guard as he pinched her.
"You look ridiculous," he said through his teeth, smiling at the crowd.
She mirrored his expression. "They're ridiculous."
"Be quiet and act normally." His breath was hot on her neck.
"I should jump from the horse and run," she said, waving at a young man, who gaped at what he thought was a court lady's attention. "I'd vanish in an instant."
"Yes," he said, "you'd vanish with three arrows buried in your spine."
"Such pleasant talk."" (pg. 40)

(A letter to Dorian from Celaena)

Your Highness-
It has come to my attention that your library isn't a library, but rather a personal collection for only you and your esteem father to enjoy. As many of your million books seem to be present and underused, I must beg you to grant me permission to borrow a few so that they might receive the attention they deserve. Since I am deprived of company and entertainment, this act of kindness is the least someone of your importance could deign to bestow upon a lovely, miserable wretch such as I.
Yours most truly,
Celaena Sardothien
(His response)

My Most True Assassin,
Enclosed are seven books from my personal library that I have recently read and enjoyed immensely. You are, of course, free to read as many of the books in the castle library as you wish, but I command you to read these first so that we might discuss them. I promise they are not dull, for I am not one inclined to sit through pages of nonsense and bloated speech, though perhaps you enjoy works and authors who think very highly of themselves.
Most affectionately,
Dorian Havillard

- "Chaol chuckled at her agitation and pointed his sword at the rack, allowing her to get to her feet. "Pick another- something different. Make it interesting too. Something that will make me sweat, please."
"You'll be sweating when I skin you alive and squish your eyeballs beneath my feet," she muttered, picking up her rapier.
"That's the spirit." (pg. 84)

""Your lonely?" He said before he could stop himself.
"Lonely?" She shook her head and finally, after all that coaxing, sat down. He fought the urge to reach across the space between them to see if her hair was as silky as it looked "No, I can survive well enough on my own- if given the proper reading material." (pg. 146)

"He won every game, yet she hardly noticed. As long as she hit the ball, it resulted in shameless bragging. When she missed- well, even the fires of Hell couldn't compare to the rage that burst from her mouth. He couldn't remember a time when he'd laughed so hard." (pg. 214)

The Assassins Blade by Sarah J. Maas

Song I Played While Reading- Left Behinds by Hardwell
Rating- 5 stars

Synopsis-
Celaena Sardothien is Adarlan's most feared assassin. As part of the Assassin's Guild, she's sworn to her master, Arobynn Hamel, yet Celaena listens to no one and trusts only her fellow killer for hire, Sam.
In these action-packed prequel novellas to Throne of Glass, Celaena embarks on five daring missions. They take her from remote islands to hostile deserts, where she fights to liberate slaves and avenge tyranny. But by acting on her own terms, will Celaena truly free herself from her master, or will she suffer an unimaginable punishment for such treachery?

The Throne of Glass series has quickly become one of my all time favorites. Only half the books are out yet, so clearly this is something worth reading. I'm rereading these books because 1. I've wanted to for awhile now, 2. I seemingly enjoy torturing myself, and 3. wanted to get reviews on here for all the books. I could've just waited until the last book comes out since I'll be reading these suckers again to have everything fresh in my mind, but thats 3 years from now. I can't wait that long. I NEED TO WORK THROUGH THE FEELS. Luckily, I can read the comments from when I first read this book on Goodreads, so I can just use those as my notes instead of the ones I wrote yesterday.
This book was awesome. I was enthralled with Celaena from the first page. She's witty, smart, lethal, and knows it. But she knows it in a way that doesn't bother me, and instead makes me admire her. She knows what she wants and she goes and gets it, no matter what, or who, is standing in her way. I definitely recommend reading these novellas because it really gives you a deeper understanding on Celaena and what she went through, in her every day life, to the unfortunate events that led to her sentencing to Endovier.
People have asked if they should read this before starting Throne of Glass, and I recommend that you do. You don't need to, but why not? You get the full story. I always like starting from the beginning, so I got this before I even ordered Throne of Glass.

Ta ta non-spoilery people!

It was weird going this far back in Celaenas life and reading from her 16 year old sassy self again. I'm so used to the hard, scarred Celaena that it was almost... unsettling. Her naivety was cute, but also really sad cause you can't help but think how changed she is from all that happened.
Sam.. oh god, he broke my heart. He was so sweet and patient, and the fact that he thought he would take his love for Celaena to the grave made me want to cry. She was nothing but awful to him, yet he loved her through it all.Their relationship was priceless in the beginning because it reminded me of two siblings. They constantly bickered and made snide remarks to each other, no matter the situation they were in.
I liked all of the side characters in each of the stories, besides Farran (even though I think him and Celaena would have been friends under WAY different circumstances). If I had to put them in order from best to worst, it would go
The Assassin and the Underworld
The Assassin and the Pirate Lord
The Assassin and the Healer
The Assassin and the Desert
The Assassin and the Empire.
I liked the Assassin and the Underworld for multiple reasons. The first being that I'm 98% sure Dorian and Chaol were in it. It was in chapter five when they were at the Harvest Moon party, and Celaena and Sam were dancing when she spotted the four masked strangers at the top of the stairs. They all had on clothes that marked them as nobility, and the ringleader had dark hair and sapphire eyes. One of the other guys kept close to him, and had a sword. He's described to have bronze eyes.
HMM, I WONDER WHO THOSE COULD BE. IT'S NOT LIKE WE KNOW TWO GUYS THAT FIT THOSE DESCRIPTIONS PERFECTLY.
I just loved the entire Harvest Moon party scene. From Celaena using her charm to extract information from Doneval, to the dancing scene, to her and Sam getting into a jealous fight over Dorian (I don't care what anyways says, IT'S HIM). Celanea gets insanely jealous over Sam because he spends so much time with Lysandra, and the only reason why I liked her (thought she really bothered me while rereading it) was because she always pissed Celaena off, and I was just WAITING for her to knock Lysandra out. She doesn't, but she chucks a knife at her, which was almost as good. The heist they had to pull off was crazy cool too.
Another great thing about this book was how most of the characters we meet in here, like Rolfe, Yrene, and Ansel, are all coming back into the story. I've heard in Queen of Shadows, which is going to be EPIC. So it was a nice refresher since the first time I read those names, I completely forgot who they were. I made sure to write down in my notes exactly who they were so I have easy access to the information.
One small thing that confused me though was on page 416 in the last story, when Celaena had barged in Farran's room and had realized it was a trap. Farran was walking away from her and motioned to these three guys.
"You would have been delightful to break," he told her, and strode from the room, motioning to three tall, well-dressed men as he passed. Not petty guards. She'd seen those three men before. Somewhere- at some point that she couldn't quite recall..."
I wracked my brain for at least an hour after that, pouring through the book, but I couldn't figure out where they were form! If anyone one knows please help a sista out and comment on this cause it's going to bother me.

Quotes
"Sam opened his mouth, and she waited for the retort, but it never came. He bowed deeply.
"As you wish," he said.
They swapped particularly vulgar gestures before she stalked down the hallway." (pg. 28)

"Celaena had a sudden moment of clarity then, as her hair ripped from her braid and the wind tore through her clothes. Of all the girls in all the world, here she was on a spit of beach in the Red Desert, astride an Asterion horse, racing faster than the wind. Most would never experience this- she would never experience anything like this again. And for that one heartbeat, when there was nothing more to it then that, she tasted bliss so complete she tipped her head back to the sky and laughed." (pg. 175)

"If you can learn to endure pain, you can survive anything. Some people learn to embrace it- to love it. Some endure it through drowning it in sorrow, or by making themselves forget. Others turn it into anger. But Ansel let her pain become hate, and let it consume her until she became something else entirely- a person I don't think she ever wished to be." (pg. 223)

"Ordinarily, Celaena would have bitten the girls head off for the insult. Lysandra was still grasping Sam's hands.
As if he sensed it, Sam wriggled his fingers away. "I-" he started.
"You should go," Celaena said. Lysandra looked between them. "I have work to do, anyway. I don't get to be the best simply by lying on my back all day." A cheap shot, but Lysandra's eyes flashed. Celaena gave her a razor-sharp smile." (pg. 290)

Ten Books I'd Love To Read With My Bookclub/ If I Had A Bookclub

This meme is hosted by the lovely ladies at The Broke and the Bookish. If I had a book club, I would want it to feature any kind of YA. Contemporary, fantasy, dystopian, romance, doesn't matter. Anything!

Crown of Midnight by Sarah J. Maas
Witty, action packed, heart wrenching, and just outright amazing, this book is a force to be reckoned with. OBVIOUSLY it has to be featured in my book club.

Heir of Fire by Sarah J. Maas
Do I even need to explain this one? No.

I'll Give You the Sun by Jandy Nelson
Jandy Nelson's writing is magical. Period. I can't even begin to describe it because the only way you'd understand is if you read one of her books. Her other novel, The Sky is Everywhere, was just as beautiful. I highly, highly recommend these books.

Last Sacrifice by Richelle Mead
Rose Hathaway will always hold a special place in my heart. Besides Twilight (still trying to get over my embarrassment on that subject), the Vampire Academy series was the first sequence of books that truly got me into reading. It's like Harry Potter for some people. I grew up reading these and I've always aspired to be like Rose. And though I wish I could shove the entire series into one "book" I know that would be cheating, so I picked my favorite. It was an amazing ending and I couldn't have asked for anything better.

Before I Fall by Lauren Oliver
I really can't put my finger on what, exactly, makes this book stand out in my mind. I read it a long time ago, yet every time someone asks me for a really good contemporary novel I recommend this one. Lauren Oliver is an astounding author and her lyrical style of writing is mind blowing. She's up there with Jandy Nelson.

Ignite Me by Tahereh Mafi
One of the best endings to a trilogy I've ever read. It was absolutely stunning. If I say any more I just might start crying cause I finished this last week and I'm still in mourning. WAH.

Since You've Been Gone by Morgan Matson
A feel good contemporary novel that made me want to create my own list and start doing things outside of my comfort zone. I loved it!

Siege and Storm by Leigh Bardugo
I have ZERO words for how incredible this trilogy was. If there ever was a trilogy that could be turned into a series, I would pick this one 100%. I can't even go into detail on this book without getting choked up (this seems to be happening a lot).

Snow Like Ashes by Sara Raasch
Fantaaaaaaastic fantasy book. Just awesome all around. Kick ass heroine, swoon worthy boys, a gorgeous world, and amazing writing? Check, check, check, and check.

Opposition by Jennifer L. Armentrout
Another great ending to a series. This is one of the few books that literally had me laughing out loud (or in my case smacking my hand over my mouth so my family didn't think I was crazy). The one issue I had with this book was the cover change. Can we all just mutually agree its pointless to change the cover of the LAST book in a series? Keep the OCD people happy and please print opposition with a cover that matches the rest of the books :)

What books would you have in your book club?

It's Monday! What Are You Reading?

Howdy! I posted a Swoon Worthy Saturday meme, but later realized the creator of it wasn't doing it anymore so I deleted it. I wanted to do one that a bunch of people always do so I can see what other people post, so I decided to do this one. It's Monday! What Are You Reading? This was made by Sheila from Book Journey. This meme is for sharing what you've finished in the past week and what you plan on reading in the upcoming week. Lets get started, shall we?

Finished This Week
The Shatter Me trilogy by Tahereh Mafi, and the two novellas. These books broke my heart and mended it back together again, only to break it once again with Ignite Me. It was a beautiful trilogy and had one of the best endings I've ever read. I recommend it to anyone that likes dramatic, lyrical style of writing, and well. Boys. Hot boys. Multiple boys. Like, so many boys you won't even know who to pick and your man sandwich will just get bigger and bigger with every book.

Currently Reading
I just finished Black Ice by Becca Fitzpatrick. It was an okay book, I posted my review on it so you guys can go check that out if you want.

Upcoming Books
I'm going to reread the Throne of Glass series because I seem to enjoy torturing myself, and really want to post reviews on them. Without a doubt, this is one of my favorite series. So I've been wanting to reread these babies for a while and finally can :)

I have two Heir of Fire's because I ordered one of them signed. And I just ordered the hardcover of Throne of Glass, can't wait for it to come in! (I'm almost tempted to order the european versions.. nO STOP MARIAH)

What will you be reading? :)

Black Ice by Becca Fitzpatrick

Song I Played While Reading- Best Mistake by Ariana Grande
Rating- 3 stars

Synopsis-
Brit Pheiffer has trained to backpack the Teton Range, but she isn't prepared when her ex-boyfriend, who still haunts her every thought, wants to join her. Before Britt can explore her feelings for Calvin, an unexpected blizzard forces her to seek shelter in a remote cabin, accepting the hospitality of its two very handsome occupants;but these men are fugitives, and they take her hostage.

Britt is forced to guide the men off the mountain, and knows she must stay alive long enough for Calvin to find her. The task is made even more complicated when Britt finds chilling evidence of a series of murders that have taken place there and in uncovering this, she may become the killer's next target.

But nothing is as it seems, and everyone is keeping secrets, including Mason, one of her kidnappers. His kindness is confusing Britt. Is he an enemy? Or an ally?

I had high hopes for this book. I loved Hush, Hush, Fitzpatricks fantasy saga. But I was a little disappointed. The main character, Britt, wasn't easily relatable to me, and some of choices she made in the book had me wanting to smack her upside the head. The story at some points either was to rushed, or way to slow. It didn't draw me in, so I had to go back sometimes and reread things.
On the other hand, there were some good plot twists in here that I didn't see coming, and I loved the ending. That's what really sealed the deal for me to make it 3 stars instead of 2. Britt had her moments of witty, sarcastic remarks, which were appreciated in such dire situations, and she wasn't one of those girls who cowered in fear. She stood up for herself and her friend, managing to keep it together most of the time, which is more then I could say for myself if I was in her situation.
I didn't love it, I didn't hate it. I look forward to more books from Fitzpatrick and can't wait for what she decides to write next :)

Ignite Me by Tahereh Mafi

Song I Read While Reading- It Was Always You by Maroon 5
Rating- TEN BILLION STARS. I'M GONNA MAKE THAT A THING RIGHT NOW. A++++++++++++++++

Synopsis
With Omega Point destroyed, Juliette doesn’t know if the rebels, her friends, or even Adam are alive. But that won’t keep her from trying to take down The Reestablishment once and for all. Now she must rely on Warner, the handsome commander of Sector 45. The one person she never thought she could trust. The same person who saved her life. He promises to help Juliette master her powers and save their dying world . . . but that’s not all he wants with her.
(no its not *wink*)

What does one say for the non-spoilery section of the third and final book in a trilogy? Character development. If that isn't obvious enough from the covers, then let me tell you now; read this book. If your a little iffy on it because Juliette has bothered you so far, PLEASE JUST GIVE IT A CHANCE. I promise you won't be disappointed.

OKAY LET ME SCREAM AND CRY ABOUT HOW WONDERFUL THIS BOOK IS, BYEEE

Ladies and gentlemen. I'm proud to say that this novel is 1. on my favorites list. 2. my favorite list of ALL TIME. and 3. probably one of the best endings to a series I've ever read. It was magnificent. The character growth was evident right away, and I was loving it. Actually, scratch that, I was drowning in it. The feels were all over the place and my throat was seizing up every few seconds because Juliette was strong. She was powerful. She believed in herself. She conquered her abilities and spoke her mind and wasn't afraid anymore, and I CANT GET OVER IT. She was so bottled up and constantly suppressing her feelings and never understand how to let go and to believe there was a brighter future for herself. And I loved how she realized that during this book, and really thought long and hard about. So much of the first half of this book was her realizing, over and over again, how stubborn she was being. How close-minded, immature, and frightened she was.
"I was a scared, broken girl, fighting back the only way I knew how. It's no wonder I failed. I wasn't in my right mind. I was weak and terrified and blind to the idea of possibility. I had no experience with stealth or manipulation. I hardly knew how to interact with people- could barely understand the words in my own head.
It shocks me to think how much I've changed in these past months. I feel like a completely different person. Sharper, somehow. Hardened, absolutely. And for the first time in my life, willing admit I'm angry.
It's liberating." (pg. 37)
Warners mom was so sad. It sounded completely awful. I wonder why Mafi didn't add that part in Destroy Me, because that would have totally pulled more people onto Warners side. I also wondered if she had some kind of power, like she could project pain but didn't know how to yet so it was simmering in her body, waiting to be let out. It reminded me of (spoiler for Vicious by V.E. Schwabb) Victor, how he could dial it down or up. I wondered if she would play a part at the end and kill Anderson herself, instead of Juliette.
Now, lets talk about Adam. Honestly I wasn't expecting this side of him to come out. He was awful. When he first started getting a little angry at her I was cheering in my head for him to keep doing it cause I knew it would make Juliette realize this isn't the guy for her. But man, I wished too hard. He said some sick shit. I wanted Kenji to punch him every time he started yelling, or Juliette to push him through a wall. But I guess it was better for her to take it and realize her true feelings, rather then keep moping about him. Cut that sucker off.
And now, my favorite part of the book.
Well, second to Warner and Juliette moments.
KENJI. KENJI. KENJI KENJI KENJI. MY FAVORITE SUPPORTING PROTGANIST OF ALL TIME. K E N J I.
He stole the show. Juliette was awesome and all, but he stole my heart. Just grabbed it and whispered sweet and sassy things to it, making it swell and swell until I literally thought I was going to die. I know exactly what Juliette went through in Unravel Me when she said her heart exploded. THE BANTER BETWEEN THOSE TWO BESTIES WERE MY UNDOING. The last time I lol'd this hard was with Rowan and Celaena from Heir of Fire by Sarah J. Maas. So thats why Juliette and Kenji are officially my second platonic OTP. Like Warner could have died and I would have been okay with it. As long as she was with Kenji. THATS HOW BAD IT IS. But I'm super okay with her having both those guys in her life. I have 16 post-it notes in the book, and 11 are those are LMFAO moments with Kenji. The guy is pure gold and one of my favorites now. I wholly support Mafi writing a spin-off series with him as the main character.
I'm not even going to write about Warner because we all know how I feel. I probably would have thrown Ignite Me at her head at Yallwest when I see her. And I LOVE how she wrote their relationship. Juliette was constantly on the go, her and Adam almost doing it a million times and never slowly getting into it. With Warner in this book, they both tore each other's walls down until nothing was a secret between them anymore. He knows everything about her from her journal, and she slowly finds things out about him. It was tender and beautiful and absolutely perfect.
And FINALLY, the ending. Juliette. Her powers. The ship. The HUNDREDS of soldiers she literally mows down. It was a simple and clean ending. A wee bit easy, which could be my only complaint, but it's right to the point. Anderson dies realizing his biggest mistake; underestimating Juliette. The girl crushed his ankle. Like he LITERALLY HAD A STUMP IN 2 SECONDS. Poof. There's goes your foot, my bad.
God it was awesome. She kicks down doors and jumps through floors and annihilates everyone. SHE WAS EVERYTHING I HAD HOPED SHE WOULD BE.
Kudos to you, Tahereh Mafi. This book was fucking magical.

Quotes
"I'm not an idiot, Kenji. I have reasons for the things I say."
"Yeah, and maybe I'm just saying you have no idea what your saying."
"Whatever."
"Don't whatever me-"
"Whatever," I say again.
"Oh my god," Kenji says to no one in particular. "I think this girl wants to get her asked kicked."
"You couldn't kick my ass if I had ten of them."
Kenji laughs out loud. "Is that a challenge?"
"It's a warning," I say to him.
"Ohhhhhhh, so your threatening me now? Little crybaby knows how to make threats now?"
"Shut up, Kenji."
"Shut up, Kenji," he repeats in a whiny voice, mocking me." (pg. 95-96)
THIS IS THE FIRST TIME THEY SEE EACH OTHER IN THE BOOK. IT GETS BETTER PEOPLE, I DONT KNOW HOW I LIVED THROUGH THIS.

""I'm here to pick up Juliette. I have no wish to disturb your... slumber party," Warner says, looking around at the pillows and blankets piled on the living room floor.
Adam goes rigid with alarm. "What're you talking about? She's not going anywhere with you."
Warner scratches the back of his head. "Do you never get exhausted being so wholly unbearable? You have as much charisma as the rotting innards of unidentified roadkill."
I hear an abrupt wheezing noise and turn toward the sound.
Kenji has a hand pressed to his mouth, desperately trying to suppress a smile. He's shaking his head, holding up a hand in apology. And then he breaks, laughing out loud, snorting as he tries to muffle the sound. "I'm sorry," he says, pressing his lips together, shaking his head again. "This is not a fun moment. It's not. I'm not laughing"
Adam looks like he might punch Kenji in the face." (pg. 127-128)

""I'm not falling for Warner," I say quietly.
"Sure you aren't."
"I'm not," I insist. 'I'm just- I dont know." I sigh. "I don't know whats happening to me."
"They're called hormones."
I shoot him a dirty look. "I'm serious."
"Me too." He cocks his head at me. "Thats like, biological and shit. Scientific. Maybe your lady bits are scientifically confused."
"My lady bits?"
"Oh, I'm sorry" -Kenji pretends to look offended- "would you rather I use the proper anatomical terminology? Because your lady bits do not scare me-"
"Yeah, no thanks." I managed to laugh a little, my sad attempt dissolving into a sigh." (pg. 156-157)

"Winston hits a switch. The lights go out. There's a rustle of blankets. "If I hear any of you talk," Winston says, "I will personally send Brendan over to kick you in the face."
"I am not going to kick anyone in the face."
"Kick yourself in the face, Brendan."
"I don't even know why we're friends."
"Please shut up." Lily shouts from her corner.
"You heard the lady," Winston says. "Everyone shut up."
"Your the one talking, dumbass," Ian says.
"Brendan, kick him in the face, please."
"Shut up, mate, I am not kicking any-"
"Good night," Castle says.
Everyone stops breathing." (pg. 165)

"It just gets really heavy sometimes." He looks away. "Too heavy. Even for me. And some days I don't want to laugh," he says. "I don't want to be funny. I don't want to give a shit about anything. Some days I just want to sit on my ass and cry. All day long." His hands stop moving against the mats. "Is that crazy?' he asks quietly, still not meeting my gaze.
I blink hard against the stinging in my eyes. "No," I tell him. "No, thats not crazy at all."
He stares hard at the floor. "Hanging out with you has made me weird, J. All I do is sit around thinking about my feelings these days. Thanks for that." (pg. 215)

"I hear a sharp whistle. Spin around.
"Hey- jazz hands!" Kenji barks. "Get your ass back over here." He makes it a point to look as irritated as possible. "Back to work. And this time focus. You're not an ape. Don't just throw your shit everywhere." (pg. 237"

"I kick down the first door I see.
Another.
Then another.
I'm going to rip apart every inch of this ship until I find Anderson. I will tear it down with my own two hands if I need to. Because he has Sonya and Sara. And he might have Kenji.
And first, I need to make them safe.
And second, I need him dead." (pg. 383)

Unravel Me by Tahereh Mafi (spoilers)

Song I Played While Reading- It Was Always You by Maroon 5
Rating- 4 stars

Synopsis-
tick
tick
tick
tick
tick
it's almost
time for war.

Juliette has escaped to Omega Point. It is a place for people like her—people with gifts—and it is also the headquarters of the rebel resistance.

She's finally free from The Reestablishment, free from their plan to use her as a weapon, and free to love Adam. But Juliette will never be free from her lethal touch.

Or from Warner, who wants Juliette more than she ever thought possible

I'm jumping right in people. Move out of the way.
SO, Juliette is at X-men headquarters Omega Point and unsurprisingly, is not being friendly. She's reverted back into her fucking shell. I'm sorry, I have such a potty mouth bUT IT MAKES ME SO ANGRY. JULIETTE. HONEY. YOU NEED TO GET OVER YOUR ISSUES. YOU CANT SKIN YOURSELF AND REGROW A NON-LETHAL PAIR.  SO PLEASE JUST ACCEPT IT. I so thought she was going to do a 360 in this book. Don't get me wrong, she does, but most of this book was the same old fears and the whispering and the crying and her wanting to curl up into a corner and hide.
"2 weeks I've been here and in 2 weeks I've taken up residence on a bed of eggshells, wondering when something is going to break, when I'll be the first to break it, wondering when everything is going to fall apart. In 2 weeks I should've been happier, healthier, sleeping better, more soundly in this safe space. Instead I worry about what will happen when if I can get this right, if I don't figure out how to train properly, if I hurt someone on purpose by accident." (pg. 3)
BITCH PLEASE. I DONT FEEL BAD FOR YOU ANYMORE. Luckily Kenji, sweet, sweet, golden boy Kenji, felt the same way. I would've kissed him if I could have. Now, I really want to type out the whole speech cause it was flawless, but that would take up a lot of room. And to be honest I'm kind of lazy. So to sum it up, he says "Boohoo, your parents hate you, people are scared of you, the whole world possibly hates you. Your skin can kill people. That doesn't mean you need to act like a little pathetic shit all the time. Man up, you have a roof over your head, food to eat, a bed to sleep on. You can either make a choice to own your power, to control and accept that it will always be a part of you, or you can run back to the asylum and hide in the dark again. Your choice." It almost made me cry because finally someone tells her! The only person who shares their feelings with her is Adam, and don't even get me started on that fool.
Too late.
Let's try and pretend Juliette doesn't turn into a legitimate baby around him and coo about how wonderful and beautiful he is. Let's pretend he's not refusing to tell her about these mysterious meetings between him and Castle, which seem to be leaving him worn out, weak, and super pale. Let's pretend Juliette doesn't use him as a crutch in life and that she actually talks to other people because she is definitely not one of those girls that only talks to her boyfriend. AND FINALLY, lets pretend Juliette doesn't physically drain him and leave him constantly weak around her. LETS JUST PRETEND THAT DOESNT EXIST.
NOPE. "Nah, I'll just keep thinking about the boy who I physically, mentally, and emotional drain, and push away the perfect specimen that I legitimately strengthen. And believe in."
WHAT.
I dont hate Adam, I really don't. He's a nice guy and doesn't deserve the shit that keeps being flung at him. But he's just not right for Juliette! Not mentally, physically, or emotionally. Warner makes her think. He challenges her, questions her, constantly keeps her on her toes. She never knows what to expect from him and he can sometimes be too much for her. But is that really so bad compared to being with a guy that turns you into a mute puddle on the floor? I so hope Juliette picks Warner, PLEASE LET IT BE SO.
Okay let's get off this topic before I have a hernia.
In this book, we get some fabulous new characters. We learn more about Castle, who has psychokinesis and can move things with his mind. This, my friends, is my ALL TIME FAVORITE POWER. Do you know how crazy awesome that would be?! We meet Sonya and Sara, who are two twins that can heal. Another crazy cool power, and they're such sweet girls who manage to crack Juliette's shell in the smallest way possible. And we also meet Winston and Brendon again, who also come reeling in with some sassy remarks. So we do get a reprieve at some points in this book, which is always awesome to have.
And then finally, we meet Anderson. Supreme Commander Anderson, to be exact. Warners father. One of the leaders of The Reestablishment. That hot prick. I gotta admit, him being a dilf really threw me off my game. I CANT KEEP ADDING BOYS TO MY MAN SANDWICH, DAMNIT MAFI. I'm up to 4 guys in it now, when I necessarily only need 2 (just because Adam annoys me sometimes doesn't mean I don't want him to join the party.) Anyways, Juliette finally goes all Hulk on his ass and turns into this cold-hearted weapon and honestly I loved it. She was awesome. She was smiling while shooting both his legs. I couldn't have been more prouder.
Now, with the added shitstorm that is Adam and Warner being brothers (OH THE THINGS THAT RAN THROUGH MY HEAD AT THAT), I'm wondering if big papa has abilities too. Both his sons do, so why shouldn't he? I both want him to but also don't, because obviously that would make things very complicated, but if he doesn't that really wouldn't make sense. Scientifically.
After that scene where Warner and Juliette make out (don't EVEN GET ME STARTED ON THAT TEAM WARNER TEAM WARNER TEAM WARNER), I really didn't know what to expect from this big, bad war. It was so.. pushed back from reality, from Juliette and Warner and Adam and Kenji and everyone at Omega Point. It was something they all had to do and plan, but so much was happening down below that I honestly forget about it half the time. It wasn't at all what I was expecting, just like what I thought with the ending of Shatter me. I definitely didn't expect a repeat of the little threesome in a house again, but alas, twas so.
Now, I hope Warner is Team Omega Point. How can he not be?! His father SHOT Juliette in the chest and she almost died. Her heart pretty much exploded, and she only lived because Warner managed to take some of the twins healing powers and heal her. And it finally seems Juliette is ready to pull on her big girl panties and take on the world. I want her to kick ass and ask questions later.
(Also I want more Juliette and Warner scenes. Specifically very steamy ones with lack of clothing.)
I see why Mafi does those little cross-outs, they're kinda cool and fun to use.

Quotes
"It's only then that I realize what a spectacle we've made. Every eye in the room is blinking at me. I attempt a weak smile and a twitchy wave before allowing Kenji to shuffle me out of the room.
"No need to wave at the people, princess. It's not a coronation ceremony."" (pg. 47)
I LOL'd hard at this scene because KENJI and I love the Princess Diaries movies, so I could totally see Mia doing this back in New York and someone telling her this.

"Kenji snorts. He's looking at me like he has no idea who I am, like he's not sure if he should laugh or applaud or run like hell in the opposite direction. He rubs the back of his neck, eyes intent on my face. He won't stop staring.
"What?" I ask.
"How much do you weigh?"
"Wow. Is that how you talk to every girl you meet? That explains so much.
"I'm one hundred seventy-five pounds," he says. "Of muscle."
I stare at him. "Would you like an award?"
"Well, well, well," he says, cocking his head, the barest hint of a smile now flickering across his face. "Look who's the smart ass now."" (pg. 50)
SASSY JULIETTE. AND WHERE DID SHE GET THAT FROM? KENJI

"Kenji, I swear, I never- I n-never-" I have to bite back the words to blink back the tears. It's crippling, this feeling, this not knowing how to prove your own innocence. It's my entire life replayed over and over and over again, trying to convince people that I'm not dangerous, that I never meant to hurt anyone, that I didn't intent for things to turn out this way. That I'm not a bad person." (pg. 72)
I swear I didn't mean to post-it note every scene with Kenji. Clearly, it's meant to be.

"This time I am a force.
A deviation of human nature.
I am living, breathing proof that nature is officially screwed, afraid of what it's done, what it's become.
And I'm stronger. I'm angrier.
I'm ready to do something I'll definitely regret and this time I don't care. I'm done being nice. I'm done being nervous. I'm not afraid of anything anymore.
Mass chaos is in my future.

And I'm leaving my gloves behind."
HELL YEAH JULIETTE. POUND THE EARTH AND TEAR IT UP.

Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi

Song I Played While Reading- It Was Always You by Maroon 5
Rating- 4 1/2 stars

Synopsis-
I have a curse.
I have a gift.
I'm a monster.
I'm more than human.
My touch is lethal.
My touch is power.
I am their weapon.
I will fight back.
No one knows why Juliette's touch is fatal, but The Reestablishment has plans for her. Plans to use her as a weapon. But Juliette has plans of her own. After a lifetime without freedom, she's finally discovering a strength to fight back for the very first time—and to find a future with the one boy she thought she'd lost forever.

Hello hello hello hellooooooo. I finally finished this baby. I've been wanting to read this for EVER and I have and I'm giddy and drunk off it. I'm bursting at the seams here with spoilers so I'm gonna try and keep this part short. The writing? Phenomenal. I love lyrical/metaphorical style of writing. Lauren Oliver does the same and I swear it brings me to my knees in awe because it's so powerful. The story line was very straight ford and simple; this girl has a fatal touch and the government wants to use her as a torture device for any rebels. A little cliche, but it manages to hold its own. It's both a science fiction/dystopian and ROMANCE. Like, ROMANCE ROMANCE FUCKING ROMANCE. I felt like dousing myself in cold water at some points. It can be a little heavy on the blue emotions, there aren't that many funny moments or super funny characters that give us a little room to breathe while we navigate the bleak world we're introduced to. BUT it's definitely doable, and I recommend it to everyone.

Alright bye non-spoilery people,  I NEED TO DISCUSS AND WORK THINGS OUT HERE SHOO.

Hi. Okay. So. I first want to talk about Adam. I knew, from the first description we got of him ("His arms are tatted up, half sleeves to his elbows.") I just KNEW HE WOULD BE THE DEATH OF ME. My throat gets all choked up with emotions whenever I think about him. What's interesting is that he's not that much of a bad boy. He's describe at first like one, and does some dickish things to Juliette in the beginning, but he quickly melts like a fucking stick of butter (got that from Mafi, thanks girl). He's not as sarcastic and witty as he appeared, which would have helped the book oodles and oodles. Like I said before, this book is a little heavy.
The one source of amusement was Kenji. He was sassy and spoke his mind and always pissed Adam off cause he flirted endlessly with Juliette. I liked him from the beginning. Juliette doesn't want him so whatever I'll take him and Warner and make myself a nice hunky man sandwich. It seems like he might like Juliette a littttttle more then we think, which could be interesting. Love square?
Which brings me to the last corner of this shape, WARNER. He's got mommy issues. And probably daddy issues. And is trying to run a sector of The Reestablishment all on his own and he's only nineteen. Phew.  I personally liked Warner. He obviously had his faults (shooting and maiming people perhaps?) BUT he only does that because he thinks he's doing the right thing. You can't deny he knows how to get what he wants.
I knew of the love triangle before I even started the book because people would always write in their review, "Team Adam! Team Warner!," and I was pleasantly surprised when we were first introduced to Warner. Like how is Mafi going to spin this story so that she likes both her knight in shinning armor and her captor?
"He tastes like peppermint, smells like gardenias. His arms are strong around me, his lips soft, almost sweet against my skin. There's an electric charge between us I hadn't anticipated.
My head is spinning.
His lips are on my neck, tasting me, devouring me. I force myself to think straight. I force myself to understand the perversion of this situation. I don't know how to reconcile the confusion in my mind, my hesitant repulsion, my inexplicable chemical reaction to his lips."
Uh, can I get a HELL FUCKING YEAH?! I know he likes Juliette. He truly does. He's created this fantasy in his head of them ruling together and taking over the world. I remember thinking this during the scene where he's tied up and Juliette and Adam were just about to escape. You could see he was honestly shocked to find out they were together. Had been for a while. And the funny part is, he actually convinced me of not trusting Adam. In that moment, I had never connected more with Juliette.
"But I'm too anxious. I'm too suspended in disbelief. I'm too insecure to be confident in my own decisions. I need to pull myself together.
"Adam--"
"I love you," he says to me, his eyes just as earnest as I remember them, his words just as urgent as they should be. "Don't let him confuse you--"
"You love her?" Warner practically spits. "You don't even--"
"Adam." The room shifts in and out of focus.""
Adam was too perfect. He looked the part, said the right things. He had the perfect boyfriend down to a science, and that made me suspicious. I get that they had history together, but to me that wasn't enough. Could that justify the instant love they had for each other? After their first make out he said he loved her. It was iffy. The whole situation was. And I feel like they went too far too fast. They almost had sex 3 different times. I'm being a complete hypocrite here, cause I probably would want to jump the bones of the hot piece of ass that is one of the few people who can touch me, but IT JUST SEEMED TO FORWARD, SLOW DOWN, LET THE GIRL BREATHE BEFORE SHE HAS A HEART ATTACK.
And finally, the ending I never in a bajillion years saw coming. X-MEN SHATTER ME EDITION. I love x-men and superpower books, so boofuckingyah for that ending. THEY HAVE FREAKING CUSTOM MADE SUITS. HOW AWESOME IS THAT? I hope Juliette and Brendan become friends. He's British and quirky and cool as hell. I thought she was the only one to have an ability, but I guess it makes sense now when you think about the condition of the world. Animals and plant life are mutating because of radiation and the pollution, so why wouldn't humans too? Thats my theory.
Another one of my theories is that Mafi got inspiration for Adam from Superman. It would draw in with the theme of the superpowers everyones got (maybe even Adam!), the way he looks (dark hair, blue eyes, tall, built) and hello?? HIS LAST NAME. Fucking Adam and Clark Kent, Supermen.

Okay I'm done here. Even though I could go on and on about this book, TIS TOO LONG.

Quotes
"Why won't you answer me?" He's too close too close too close.
No one is ever close enough.
I suck in a breath and wait for him to walk away like everyone else in my life. My eyes are focused on the window and the promise of what could be. The promise of something grander, something greater, some reason for the madness building in my bones, some explanation for my inability to do anything without ruining everything. There will be a bird. It will be white with streaks of gold like a crown atop its head. It will fly. There will be a bird. It will be-
"Hey-"
"You can't touch me," I whisper. I'm lying, is what I don't tell him. He can touch me, is what ill never tell him. Please touch me, is what I want to tell him." (pg. 11)

"He clenches and unclenches his jaw. He runs a hand through his hair and I realize for the first time that he's not wearing a shirt. It's so dark in this room I can only catch the curves and contours of his silhouette; the moon is allowed only a small window to light this space but I watch as the muscles in his arms tighten with every moment and suddenly I'm on fire. Flame are licking at my skin and theres burst of heat clawing through my stomach. Every inch of his body is raw with power, every surface somehow luminous in the darkness. In 17 years I've never seen anything like him. In 17 years I've never talked to a boy my own age." (pg. 23)

My favorite
"I spent my life folded between the pages of books.
In the absence of human relationships I formed bonds with paper characters. I lived love and loss through stores threaded in history; I experienced adolescence by association. My world is one interwoven web of words, stringing limb to limb, bone to sinew, thoughts and images all together. I am a being compromised of letters, a character created by sentences, a figment of imagination formed through fiction.
They want to delete every point of punctuation in my life from this earth and I don't think I can let that happen." (pg. 70)

""I just told you I don't-"
He cuts me off. "I'm not worried about your moral dilemmas. You're just stalling for time because you're in denial. Don't worry," he says. "You'll get over it. I can wait a little longer.
"I'm not in denial-"
"Of course you are. You don't know it yet, Juliette, but you are a very bad girl," he says, clutching his heart. "Just my type."
This conversation is impossible."

"My fingers are tugging at the hem of his wet clothes and his eyes widen for only a second before he rips the material off himself. He grabs my hands and lifts my arms above my head and pins me against the wall, kissing me until I'm sure I'm dreaming, drinking in my lips with his lips and he tastes like rain and sweet musk and I'm about to explode."
This is the scene where I felt like dunking myself in a bath of cold water. It was twice as long as what I only posted and well.. be glad I didn't post the rest or you'd be running to the bathroom too.
Happy readings :)
